WA Branch Webinar – Morten Allentoft: A Brief Prehistory of Europe Written in Ancient DNA

May 11 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The WA Branch invites you to join us for our next virtual webinar, to be held via Zoom on Wednesday 11th May 2022, commencing at 6:30 pm AWST. Please check your timezone if you will be joining us from outside of Perth, Western Australia.

This webinar will feature Prof. Morten Allentoft, an evolutionary biologist specialising in ancient DNA research. Morten will share how he uses genetic analyses using variable nuclear markers (similar to those applied in forensic DNA profiling) to reveal astonishing information on human evolution. What happened when hunter-gatherers of Homo sapiens arrived in Europe c. 40,000 years ago and met the Neanderthal? How was farming introduced to the continent during the Neolithic Stone Age? Why do Europeans share up to 40% of their ancestry with 5000-year-old herders from the Caspian Steppe? Ancient DNA has the answers!

Registration

The webinar is free, however places are limited. Please register below by 5:00 pm Monday 9th May using the link: https://members.anzfss.org/booking.php?id=217
