SUMMARY:ANZFSS WA Branch Event: The science of theoretical explosion reconstruction
DESCRIPTION:In September 2022\, a man was killed when he approached what appeared to be a small scrub fire along a bush track in Pinar\, Western Australia. Unbeknown to the victim\, a number of car tyres had been stacked on top of each other and set alight after placing a diving cylinder in the centre of the tyres. The victim was not hit by the bursting cylinder\, but did suffer immediate life terminating injuries. \nThis incident appeared quite simple in concept\, however proved to be significantly more complex than first thought\, requiring the application of scientific principles to support physical evidence. \n\n\n\nOur presenter\, Sgt Clayton (Jack) Bennie APM\, joined the WA Police Forensic in 1983 before moving into the field of forensic crime scene investigation in 1987. He has over 38 years experience in major crime scene investigation as well as explosion investigation including a major forensic role in one of Australia’s most complex car bombings in 2001. He has delivered explosion investigation training in most Australian jurisdictions as well as being requested to assist with training internationally in Indonesia\, Malaysia\, Nepal and Canada\, working with Interpol and the RCMP. \nDate: Thursday 2 October\, 2025 \nTime: 6pm start\, 5.30pm for refreshments and networking \nVenue: Exhibition Space\, Ground Level Building 500\, Curtin University\, Manning Road BENTLEY \nTickets: ANZFSS Members FREE / Non-members $10\, Student non-members $5
