ANZFSS WA Branch Event – Forensic Insights from the Christchurch Shooting

February 23 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm AWST

For our first event of 2024, all are welcome as ANZFSS WA hosts Angus Newton, a firearms and toolmark examiner all the way from the Auckland laboratory of the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR), New Zealand.

The 15th of March 2019 marked New Zealand’s single worst mass shooting incident, when two Islamic mosques were targeted in Christchurch. This presentation will detail the experiences of the ESR in aiding the New Zealand Police to investigate and forensically examine the difficult scenes where 51 were killed and a further 49 injured. The lessons learnt from this large-scale tragedy will aid similar challenging and complex investigations in the future.

Join the ANZFSS WA team on Friday 23rd February at Murdoch University’s Boola Katitjin facility (Building 360) in Room 4.003. Networking and refreshments from 5:30pm, with a 6:00 pm start for the presentation.
